The Essentials of Technology for Law Firms
[/vc_column_text][us_separator][vc_column_text]Let's start because the time to transform for all companies is no longer talked about in the future, but is already a current issue where clients are increasingly demanding and offering them good service requires technology. However, we must use this technology to solve problems, since many of them are complex for the entire team and instead of taking away time (a precious commodity for lawyers) it adds additional time to their daily work. The good thing about 2021 is that many firms are already receptive to innovation and do not need a robot lawyer but rather to have the fundamentals and basics well applied. How to have the essentials and basics in an office? We must consider that all technology and changes in general must have a foundation, trial and error, and teamwork, consolidating all efforts when implementing them for efficiency. When it comes to digital documentation, the entire organization must be well-trained to access these virtual libraries by legal department, client, budget, file, etc. This must allow for proper information management to streamline processes and facilitate everyone's ability to work in the office or remotely. Let's not forget that during the pandemic, this was the only alternative, and being prepared for any unforeseen event cannot be overlooked. It's also essential to have a single digital system where key business information is centralized, since having a single storage program and communication channel is key to avoiding inconveniences and maintaining good customer service by understanding all the basics, such as customer records, active files, invoicing, etc. There's talk of omnichannel, where we can contact clients through all possible means, offering the same quality of service. However, it's important to keep in mind that for a law firm, the number of technologies used must be kept to a minimum, as both the lawyer and the client may have so many possible ways to contact each other that they may be unsure which method to use, or the message may get lost, when this should be as simple as possible. Every digital transformation and innovation project must help reduce the work time required for complex cases such as mergers and acquisitions and ensure their roles and functions are aligned with the firm's business objectives. However, this project involves not only lawyers but also a digital team responsible for guiding everyone through this change process. Many firms may already have the aforementioned capabilities, but for the rest of the firms that haven't, this may be ideal for improving their competitiveness in the legal services market. Likewise, it's important to keep this plan constantly updated, as technology also changes, and we continually find new developments that must adapt to the needs of each business. In short, when we read many articles about "digital transformation," it's not just about buying the best computer equipment, getting more cloud storage, serving clients via video calls, or having innovative software. It involves a change in the mindset of the entire team, generating a new type of "innovation culture." It's a commitment that includes new working methods that harness the full potential of innovation for improvement. It would be inappropriate to invest in technologies that are not used; they should support everyone, and each firm should apply them according to the needs of the team and its clients. For law firms, innovation is still a challenge, but many businesses in other areas have managed to apply it successfully, without abandoning it, without fear, without rushing or pausing.
