The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Nicaragua has recently implemented a new online procedure system that applies to institutions governed by this body, such as the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners, the General Directorate of Firefighters of Nicaragua, and the National Penitentiary System. According to the authorities, this aims to facilitate access to the various procedures offered by these institutions.

In the particular case of the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners, one of the most prominent procedures is that which foreign visitors must complete before traveling to or entering the country for any reason or purpose. This procedure is called “Organized and Safe Entry and Exit to Nicaragua for Visitors of Other Nationalities,” for which they must fill out a form available on the Migration and Foreigners website and send it to two email addresses (solicitudes@migob.gob.ni and preyes@migob.gob.ni). Once the Ministry of the Interior receives and approves the request, it sends the visitor’s entry authorization to the designated border post (air, sea, or land). This measure was implemented, as explained by the Vice Minister, as a strategy to facilitate foreign visitors’ entry into the country in a more agile, orderly, and secure manner, and also to safeguard the country’s security, aiming to prevent certain groups from entering disorderly. Recently, it has been detected that people linked to drug trafficking, human trafficking, and organized crime have attempted to enter the country, but fortunately, thanks to intelligence work and the updated systems managed by the Ministry of the Interior, these attempts have been prevented. It is important to note that the aforementioned request must be accompanied by the foreign person’s passport, which must be valid for at least six months, and the request must be submitted in advance, as the authorities’ response time can be approximately seven working days.

Likewise, the Ministry of the Interior has implemented online procedures offered by the National Penitentiary System, where one of the most innovative procedures is for Special Visits. Currently, to request a special visit with a person deprived of liberty, it is only necessary to enter the online platform of the National Penitentiary System, create an account with personal data, fill out a form, then choose the desired procedure and send it to the relevant authorities. Once the request is approved, the date and time of the visit will be sent to the applicant’s email. This helps streamline the process, as previously, individuals had to visit the National Penitentiary System’s offices in the Municipality of Tipitapa to physically submit the request. It should be noted that the relevant authorities reserve the right to schedule the visit based on the availability of time and space in the prison.

In addition, the new online procedure system includes a portal specifically for carrying out procedures related to the Ministry of the Interior, including: Registration of National Legal Personality, Registration of Foreign Legal Personality, Closure of National and Foreign Nonprofit Organizations, among others. In all cases, applicants must go to the Ministry of the Interior portal, create an account to register, fill out a form, and choose the type of procedure they are requesting. They will be given email addresses to which a request or letter directed to the Director of the Nonprofit Organizations Registry, signed by the President, Legal Representative, or Authorized Representative of the Entity, must be sent, along with a series of required documents, payment of fees, and others. It should be noted that all documentation can be sent via scan through the online system, making the process easier and faster. However, this does not exclude the possibility that the entity may request physical documents after the process has been initiated.

Finally, but no less important, the digital platform for online procedures implemented by the Ministry of the Interior also offers services from the General Directorate of Firefighters, such as: Training for Business Brigades, Training for Governmental Brigades, among others. To request these services, applicants simply need to send a request to the emails (dvado@migob.gob.ni and academia.dgbn@migob.gob.ni), and later wait for confirmation of the date and time for the procedure to be performed. It is worth mentioning that after the request or procedure is confirmed, the relevant authorities may request additional information or documentation.

With the implementation of this online procedure system, the Ministry of the Interior continues to advance in the constant modernization of its structures for the benefit of Nicaraguan citizens and foreigners in general.
