Experience

Alonso Vargas has served as Judge of the Costa Rican Supreme Court of Justice, which has given him a deep knowledge in civil, commercial and labor judicial processes. He has served as external advisor for judicial procedures for various State entities such as the National Vocational Institute, the Municipality of Montes de Oca, the private bank “Banco Popular”, among others. In his long career as a litigator, he has represented both individual clients and national and international companies.

Additionally, he has performed excellent results in complicated legal proceedings and arbitrations in the different chambers of our country. His extensive knowledge of jurisprudence and doctrine acquired during his judicial career, has helped him in his constant update in these matters. His experience has allowed him to become a talented litigator, defending clients such as the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, the Industrial Bank, Casa Blanca, Convergys, Pinturas Sur, Tamarindo Diria, Coocique, Ceca and Cemix, in various cases.

Part of his career as a recognized litigator, has been the experience he has accumulated in proceedings concerning representation of foreign companies, as well as his extensive experience in civil liability proceedings as counsel for the insurance company ASSA and Grupo Roble.

Alonso Vargas advises clients in labor matters, proper warnings, dismissals, severance payments, solidarism and syndicate matters. He has won important labor court cases, having established jurisprudence in corporate responsibility for actions of employees and workers’ payment compensation packages for executives of transnational corporations.

He also exercises in the fields of Corporate Law and Banking and Finance, attending various national and international companies, such as the banks Bancoagrícola, Bancolombia, Towerbank, Banco Industrial, Banco Itaú Panamá, Bancolombia Panamá and Bancolombia Puerto Rico, providing legal financial advice.

Finally, he has been a collaborator and lecturer at various academic institutions and has served as Professor at Universidad Latina, Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica and Universidad Central.

Education: Graduated in Legal Sciences and Notary Law at the Panamerican University, Master’s degree in Business Law at the University for International Cooperation (UCI).

Alonso Vargas has been involved in various litigation and arbitration cases, among which we can highlight one arbitration with an estimate of US $ 120,000.000.00 in the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica, presented by the company Desarrollos Naturales de Costa Rica S.A. against the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, where Alonso Vargas defended the Bank with excellent results.

He particularly emphasized in an arbitration case against Deloitte & Touche S.A., which was processed in the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica and obtained a favorable laud that annulled a non-competition clause imposed on our client.

Finally, he has participated in various labor processes, defending the company Convergys, obtaining favorable results.
