Digital Nomads Law Comes into Force
[/vc_column_text][us_separator][vc_column_text]Today, Wednesday, September 1, Law No. 10008, “Law to Attract Remote Workers and Service Providers of an International Nature,” better known as the “Digital Nomads Law,” was published in Official Gazette No. 168. This law creates, within the non-resident immigration category, a new stay subcategory called “Remote Worker or Service Provider,” applicable to foreign persons who, through telecommunications means, perform paid work for a natural or legal person located outside the country. Beneficiaries of this new subcategory will enjoy benefits such as: total exemption from income tax and tariffs on the import of equipment, instruments, tools, or computer, telecommunications, or similar media required to provide their services. They will also be able to travel within the country using their foreign driver's license and open bank accounts in the national banking system. Article 25 of the law establishes that, upon its entry into force, the Executive Branch has two months to issue regulations governing elements of the law, such as requirements for granting immigration status to the applicant's immediate family, among others. We will provide information as soon as the regulations are published. If you have any questions, please contact us at migracioncr@lexincop.com.
